Pickerel Spawning Bed Construction on Moon River

We constructed pickerel spawning beds at the base of the Moon River falls on Georgian Bay for the Ministry of Natural Resources. Utilizing our 30×60 spud barge and a 16-ton excavator, we placed hundreds of tonnes of round boulders directly into the river current. Transporting the rock from our nearby private commercial landing, we created durable underwater beds tailored to natural spawning needs. The rounded boulders create essential gaps that allow clean, oxygenated water to flow over eggs while preventing silt buildup, giving pickerel an ideal environment to reproduce.
