We designed and custom-fabricated a heavy-duty aluminum tripod hoist to stand up and drive dock piles on frozen lake construction sites. When building docks off winter ice, our 1/2-inch wall steel piles weigh 25 lbs per foot and require serious lifting power to erect safely. We worked with an engineer on tube sizing and fabricated a 24-foot tall, pin-together aluminum tripod rated for 1,500 to 2,000 lbs. It features a 120V Warn winch powered by our mobile welder, plus welded handles on the legs for quick repositioning across the jobsite.
We prefabricated and installed a heavy W18x87 structural steel ridge beam for a waterfront boathouse project. After design changes replaced the original LVL beam with a 3,000+ lb steel I-beam, we mobilized quickly to keep construction on schedule. We pre-welded and fabricated the components at our shop yard while preparing the dock site. With barging and crane assistance, we hoisted the massive beam onto steel columns and completed the field welding directly over the water. Through careful planning and prefabrication, the crane barge operation took just 45 minutes on install day.
