Custom Walnut Built-In Secretary in New Hampshire

I built this custom solid black walnut built-in secretary desk and bookcase for a niche beside a fieldstone fireplace in New Hampshire. Crafted entirely from a single air-dried local walnut tree, the project features hand-planed fielded panels, hand-sawn tenons, and hand-chopped mortises. The live edge of the fall-front slab serves as the writing desk, flanked by shaped breadboard ends. The piece includes double-splayed mitered surrounds, an 8/4 architrave, custom plinths scribed tight to the stone fireplace, and a natural burnished sheen with no applied finish. A salvaged block plane lever cap serves as a magnetic latch closure.
