Across the whole industry, employees in Ontario construction average $38.50 an hour (Statistics Canada, 2025). By trade, median hourly wages run from about $25 for painters and $27 for construction labourers up to $44 for ironworkers, $46 for steamfitters and $50 for construction managers.

The full range across all trades is roughly $18.50 at the low end to over $90 at the high end. Starting wages also depend on where you work: median starting pay for a construction labourer is about $30/hr in Toronto and Kitchener–Waterloo, $27 in Hamilton, Windsor and Peterborough, $26 in London, $25 in Ottawa and $23 around Kingston. Where you land depends on your trade, tickets, experience, union status and the type of construction.
