Dockside WeldingA few winters back, we were building a dock off the ice. At 25 lbs per foot, our 1/2" wall piles are incredibly heavy to stand up in order to drive them. We came up with a design and fabricated an aluminum tripod to hoist them up. Everything pins together for quick setup, including the winch. we speced a 120v warn winch so we can plug it into a welder for power. with advice from our engineer on tube sizing, we overbuilt it so its capacity is 1500-2000lbs. once its erected, it sits about 24 feet tall. We welded handles to the legs for easy mobility around the jobsite.

Pros and cons to the winter and summer seasons. The nice part about the winter is layout is far easier, and you can walk around the whole jobsite.

Smart. Working on the ice like that looks hard and kind of fun at the same time.
