Rieger ContractingWe were hired to blast a hole inside an existing building at a project of ours. It was for a cold plunge tub in what was going to turn into the spa building. We left our 3.5 ton excavator on the island late fall. We got our other equipment out there via ice road. Once completed, we managed to get everything off the island before the weather turned and we started losing ice.

We use a project called NxBurst. It’s great for small jobs as it’s very safe and easy to use. How to control a blast like what we did here really just comes from experience. This was a 3 week job. Lots of small blasts in order to preserve the building. Also excavating the hole took a very long time reaching in with the excavator. Blast mats were needed for safety.

How do you determine how to blast it? I know so little about this. Like is there a calculation you have to do? Or you just drill in tnt, put the mat on top and hope for the best?
