01 · ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Custom vertical siding installation featuring flush-integrated garage doors with continuous top-to-bottom wood grain book matching. We completed this comprehensive vertical siding package for a Hummingbird Hill Homes custom addition. The garage doors serve as the centerpiece: each run uses a 12-foot board cut into five precise pieces for seamless vertical grain flow while keeping the doors fully operational. The build required custom-bent jambs from flat stock coil and over 1,000 face-nailed fasteners, each meticulously laid out, pre-drilled, and hand-driven.

To this day these garage doors were the biggest challenge of my career. Every single run is a 12' board cut into 5 separate pieces to allow for a top to bottom book match, while keeping the garage doors operational. The level of precision required here was like nothing I had done before. Not only did every piece have to be cut to identical sizes but this siding was a face nail application adding another layer to the challenge. Over 1000 nails, each one individually laid out, pre-drilled and hand driven. Seeing these doors roll up and down for the first time was a highlight of my career for sure. Oh yeah, and I custom bent the Jambs too from a flat stock coil

Thank you! @Ian MacFayden , the horizontal seams were definitely the most challenging since there was so little room for error. Each piece was marked in place with a knife to be as accurate as possible, cut on a bevel, then @Mitchell Hassan dialed them in with a quick hand sand.

@Braeden Sass these look amazing. It’s been awesome to see your development over the years. If you had to pick just one aspect which part would you say was the hardest?
