You need to be as comfortable with a complex roof system calculation as you are scribing a cabinet to a century-old stone wall. You will be responsible for the building envelope—managing moisture, airtightness, and thermal boundaries with the precision. What We Expect: Zero Tolerance for "Good Enough". Mental Agility: You must possess the spatial reasoning to mentally walk through a 3D structure before a single nail is driven. Leadership: You will lead 1–2 apprentices. Job Title: Carpenter (Lead Red Seal). Department: Operations. Reporting Structure: Reports to the Site Supervisor (SS) and Project Manager (PM). Primary Objective: To execute high-precision carpentry tasks, with a specialized focus on building envelopes and high-end finishing, while providing on-site leadership to apprentices. Technical Scope of Work The Employee is responsible for the following technical tasks, which must be completed with precision and efficiency in accordance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), design consultant requirements, and Tucker Homes Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Building Envelope & Science: Execute moisture management systems, specialized insulation, and air/water sealing to meet high-performance standards, including Passive House or Net Zero construction. High-End Finishing: Perform all aspects of interior and exterior finish carpentry with an elite level of craftsmanship. Structural & Renovation Framing: Lead complex framing projects, including structural modifications, temporary shoring, foundation underpinning, and seamless material integration. System Installation: Complete all required flashing, forming, and specialized waterproofing as directed by project specifications. Blueprints & Layout: Read, interpret, and execute building specifications and architectural drawings, including advanced layout work and material takeoffs. Leadership & Mentorship Apprentice Supervision: Lead and supervise 1–2 apprentices on-site, ensuring their work meets company standards. Skills Development: Provide active on-site training and coaching; verify and sign off on Apprenticeship Training Standards as tasks are mastered. Site Awareness: Conduct site walkthroughs to ensure the team understands the project objectives and follows correct execution methods. Operational Responsibilities & Safety Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe jobsite by following the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Green Book; identify and report any defective equipment to the PM immediately. Toolbox Talks: Lead or participate in daily toolbox talks to address safety concerns and provide technical learning opportunities for the crew. Site Standards: Maintain an organized work area and perform a comprehensive daily site cleaning at the end of every shift. Documentation: Ensure proper site documentation is posted, including permits, drawings, and safety signage. Administration & Communication Project Software: Utilize Company Cam, and Ressio to track hours and maintain digital records of daily work. Task Management: Monitor and update the "To Do List" as items are requested by clients or the PM. Team Communication: Maintain open, proactive communication with the crew and management to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines. Employment Expectations & Conduct Hours of Work: Typical hours are 7:00 am – 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday. The Employee is expected to be on-site and ready 10 minutes before the start time. Weekend or extended hours may be required based on project demands. Uniform & Appearance: The Employee must wear the provided company uniform and maintain a professional appearance. Professional Development: Participate in all mandatory training and education sessions provided by the company. Performance Reviews: Participate in annual reviews and maintain a "vision board" of professional and personal goals to be reviewed with the PM. 7. Essential Qualifications Certification: Valid Red Seal Carpenter designation. Experience: Minimum 10 years in residential construction (new builds and renovations). Licensing: Valid driver's license with the ability to drive a vehicle with a trailer. Soft Skills: High moral integrity, strong work ethic, and a "growth mindset" committed to elite craftsmanship.
