Scott SchwabThese are custom full over full bunk beds that I designed, built, installed and finished in a basement that was specifically built for a set of beds like this. The original contractor (my old boss) never took the initiative to build these and the challenge absolutely ate at me. When I decided to leave my previous position, I reached out with a detailed drawing I had created in sketchup (self taught) and they said "absolutely, we would love for you to do the work." I went back out to the project and took as many measurements as I could, to then take them back home and build the frames in my garage and in my driveway. After that I hauled them (35 miles one way) back out to the jobsite and installed them where I then took measurements for the staircase. I have never built stairs before but the client had requested the first step not stick out past the beds. So, after probably close to two days worth of layout on my bench, I was happy with it and began building them on their side, on my bench. After they were completed, I hauled them back out to the jobsite and had to remove the sliding glass door panel to squeeze them into the walkout basement. Luckily with about 1/8" to spare they fit like a glove. After that the slats, doors, detail work, and final paint were completed on site and the clients absolutely loved them! To date, it is the project that I am the proudest of and show to anyone that I can (5 years later).
