These Architects IncHouse on a Ravine is a thoughtful reimagining of a 1924 Edwardian home overlooking one of Toronto’s ravine systems. The project carefully balances heritage preservation with contemporary design, introducing a striking rear addition clad in wood and metal that opens dramatically toward the landscape. Large expanses of glazing frame views into the ravine while connecting the interior spaces to a sunken outdoor terrace below. At the heart of the renovation, a sculptural metal and wood staircase rises beneath a large skylight, bringing natural light deep into the home and creating a strong vertical connection through the interior. The design blends warm oak millwork, refined detailing, and contemporary interventions to create a house that feels both grounded in its historic character and deeply connected to its natural surroundings.
