Daniel MacEnchroeInstalled 3 solar heating systems to existing domestic hot water systems to increase efficiency and reduce gas usage.

Not a cheap system. Pending unit sizing a setup to service 1-2 people starts at 7k materials. 9+ people is 20k material. This was installed in a commercial setting with offices, showers, bathrooms. So cost returns are definitely viable. On a new build focusing on green technology and energy efficiency it's totally a great system to consider.

That’s pretty awesome, what are the costs like for install? Is the expected payback time reasonable?

Harder to tell with the current winter we're having. But with all the pipes insulated we're seeing a net gain in temp in 2/3 systems on the return line even in winter! Veissman (the manufacturer) has claims of 60% reduction in traditional power requirements on DHW.

This is really cool. Do you find they’re effective?
